South Richmond,
every week.

Leaves are the whole conversation here from October

The heavy drop in this area runs from the middle of October into the first week of November. The distinction we make on every property is simple: whole leaves on grass come off, shredded leaves in beds stay. A layer of wet leaves on turf is a lid. It holds moisture against the crown, blocks the light the lawn needs in the one season it is storing energy, and keeps the surface from drying between rains.

The rule you can check without calling anybody: if you can still see grass through the leaves, mulch-mow them and let them feed the soil. Once you cannot, they have to come off. The full version is on the leaf removal page, and the crew wrote it up in the Letter.

Drainage, because the clay does not care how nice the yard is

Richmond clay holds water. Standing water more than a day after the rain, soft ground against the foundation, mulch that keeps washing out and moss taking over where grass used to be are the four we see most, and they are usually one problem wearing four costumes. It is worth checking before it becomes a basement conversation.

What the routes look like

Westover Hills, Stratford Hills, Forest Hill and the south side of Windsor Farms are on the daily run, about twenty-five minutes from the yard in Midlothian. We work where we already are rather than chasing the map, because the crew that is in your neighbourhood every week is the one that notices the thing you did not call about.

Neighbourhoods on the route

  • Westover Hills
  • Stratford Hills
  • Forest Hill
  • Windsor Farms (south)

Our coverage map is a guide, not a hard line. If your street is not on it and you are near the routes, send your zip and a short description through the estimate form and we will tell you honestly whether we can get there.

What people ask
about Richmond.

Which parts of Richmond do you cover?

Westover Hills, Stratford Hills, Forest Hill and the south side of Windsor Farms, on a daily route. We are a south-side operation and we would rather say so than pretend the map is bigger than it is.

When does leaf removal need to start?

The heavy drop here usually runs from the middle of October into the first week of November. The first light drop does not need a cleanup at all: run the mower over it with the deck high and let it shred in place.

How many cleanup visits does a property need?

The yards that come out clean in spring get touched twice inside the drop window rather than once at the end. Waiting two more weekends is what turns a cleanup into a repair.

Is leaf removal included if I am on a maintenance contract?

Yes. Leaf removal is a separate scope and it is included in our annual maintenance contracts. If you are not on one, we quote the cleanup by itself.

What zip codes is that?

23225 and 23226. If your Richmond zip is not one of those, send it through the estimate form rather than assuming, because our coverage map is a guide and not a hard line.
